Why most cleansers don't clean your skin gently and effectively

A cleanser sits on your face for around a minute and then rinses away. In that short window it has one real job, which is to remove oil, sunscreen and the residue of the day without damaging your skin barrier on the way out. Because it is a rinse off product, even impressive treatment ingredients simply do not have enough contact time to do meaningful work before they wash down the drain. Yet many cleansers get the one job wrong in one of two directions. Some are built on strong sulfate surfactants that feel powerfully clean precisely because they strip the skin's natural oils along with the dirt. That tight, squeaky feeling afterwards is really your barrier asking for help. Others are thickened into rich, luxurious textures that look premium in the hand but owe that feeling to gums and bulking agents rather than to anything your skin needs.
Dermatology research points to a better way. Milder surfactant systems, used at a pH close to the skin's own, cleanse effectively while causing far less disruption to the barrier [1, 2]. That evidence shaped every decision in PureDew. The cleansing system is a coconut derived amino acid complex at just over 10 percent, from a family of surfactants documented as significantly gentler than conventional sulfates [1]. You may notice our gel is a little thinner than many cleansers you have used, and that is deliberate. We left out the thickening and bulking agents that exist only to change how a product looks and feels in the hand. What remains is the cleansing complex itself, botanical water from the Korean hinoki cypress in place of a fifth of the plain water, centella with its four isolated soothing compounds [3], and glycerin, one of the best studied humectants in dermatology, so skin holds onto its own water through the wash [4].
The philosophy is simple. A cleanser should clean thoroughly, respect the barrier and get out of the way, leaving your skin perfectly prepared for the products that stay on and do have time to work. Everything in the formula serves those sixty seconds, and nothing in it is there for show.
Your proof point. Run the sixty minute test. Cleanse with PureDew, pat dry, apply nothing else and wait an hour. Then check how your face feels. Skin cleansed with a barrier respecting formula should feel clean, soft and comfortable. Skin cleansed with a stripping formula tells a different story within that hour, feeling tight, squeaky or dry as the barrier struggles to replace the oils that were washed away.
